Have you had yellow watermelon? Have you had any other oddly colored fruit?
Yellow Watermelon
Fruit smoothies have been in full swing in the Garriss household of late. My favorite ingredients so far: bananas and pineapples (which go surprisingly well together). But the most interesting ingredient has got to be yellow watermelon. I went to a Thai market last week with a couple friends, who told me watermelon was currently in season (along with strawberries and pineapples). I expressed interest in the watermelons and was informed I could have red or yellow. They look about the same, more or less, on the outside; very watermelonish. So I decided to get a yellow one, just for grins. And it was certainly bright yellow on the inside. But it really didn't taste all that different from a red one. So into the smoothie it goes! Mmmmm.

Tom has been buying yellow watermelons for years. Not something new. A Texas specialty.
We've had yellow watermelons as well. Nice to mix with red ones when sliced on a plate for serving...
The weirdest fruit I have had are Buddha's hands (shape) http://www.scenicnursery.com/archives/buddha%20hand%20cropped.jpg
and dragon fruit (color)

... nice you can get good fresh fruit all year... and I agree.. banana+pineapple is delicious :)
@Tom - Ann says she's never had any yellow water melons. Ya'll been holding out on us? :-)
@Phil - I had dragon fruit while in Pattaya. Given how ugly it is, it's surprisingly good. If you like kiwi, you'll probably like dragon fruit.
Dragon fruit is definitely one of my favorite. They look so cool on the vine (or tree or whatever it is they grow on) as well.
I happen to like yellow watermelons better than the red ones :-). Dragon fruit is good as well - so are tiger melons (sort of tiger coloured on the outside when ripe). We tend towards the odd and colourful whenever possible...yellow watermelons, purple and red potatoes (inside and out).....
Never heard of tiger melons before. They taste any different?
